Locking Gas Springs & Struts , Usage Fields, Control Units
Introduction Bloklift Series
Locking type gas springs, also known as lockable gas springs or gas struts with locking capability, are innovative and versatile components used in a wide range of applications. These gas springs provide not only the traditional functionality of supporting and smoothly controlling the movement of lids, hatches, or other objects but also the added advantage of locking them in position at specific angles or heights.
How Does Locking Gas Spring Works?
The locking mechanism in these gas springs allows for secure positioning, preventing any unwanted or accidental movement. This feature is particularly useful in applications where stability, safety, and controlled motion are crucial, such as adjustable seats, furniture, machinery, medical equipment, automotive applications, and more.

How to Measure Locking Gas Spring
In case of custom design or ordering replacement gas springs there are some important parameters that needed to be provided. These parameters are;
– Extended Length (L) ; it needs to be measure as gas spring fully extended or opened.
– Stroke Length (s) ; it is actually difference between fully extended and fully compressed length.
– Pressure Rate (F1) ; which can be considered as lifting power of gas spring. Each diameter range provides certain power capacity. F1 value can be stated as Newton (N) or Pound (Ibs).
Locking Types, Functions
The locking types in lockable gas springs provide flexibility and control over the position and movement of objects. These locking mechanisms enable secure locking at specific angles or heights, ensuring stability, safety, and convenience in various applications. The choice of locking type depends on the specific requirements and functionality needed for the application at hand.
Rigid Locking in Compression: Similar to the extension locking, this locking type enables the lockable gas spring to rigidly hold the compressed position. Once the gas spring is compressed to the desired angle or height, the locking mechanism engages, preventing any further compression and maintaining the object securely in position. This locking mode ensures stability and prevents unintentional extension.
The spring locking mechanism in lockable gas springs provides intermediate locking positions between fully extended and fully compressed states. This feature allows for locking the gas spring at multiple angles or heights within its range of motion. By disengaging the lock, the gas spring can be easily adjusted to different positions, and when the desired position is reached, the lock engages, keeping the object firmly in place.
Rigid Locking in Extension: This locking type allows the lockable gas spring to rigidly hold the extended position. Once the gas spring is extended to a desired angle or height, the locking mechanism engages, preventing any further movement and keeping the object securely in place. This locking mode ensures stability and prevents accidental collapse or unexpected movement.
Blockift Series Usage Fields - Applications
Gas Piston for Hospital Beds
Locking gas springs play a crucial role in enhancing the functionality and safety of hospital beds. These innovative devices are designed to provide controlled and effortless adjustment of bed positions, ensuring patients’ comfort and caregivers’ ease. The gas springs utilize compressed gas to exert force, allowing smooth height adjustments of the bed, backrest, and leg rest. Importantly, the locking mechanism integrated into these gas springs ensures that once a desired position is achieved, it remains firmly secured, preventing any accidental movements that could endanger the patient’s well-being
Gas Lift for Overbed Table
Locking gas springs are indispensable in the medical industry’s overbed tables. They provide smooth height adjustments for patient convenience while maintaining stability and safety. The locking mechanism in the gas springs ensures that the table remains stable and securely fixed in place during use, preventing unintended movements that could compromise patient safety. Patients can access the tabletop comfortably, ensuring a better overall experience and promoting faster recovery.
Locking Gas Springs in Rollator
Bloklift Series offer valuable benefits when integrated into rollators, enhancing their functionality and usability for individuals with mobility challenges. Rollators, also known as wheeled walkers, provide support and assistance to those who require help with walking or maintaining balance. By incorporating locking gas springs, these devices gain valuable features such as height adjustability and secure positioning. Moreover, the locking mechanism ensures that the rollator remains steady and immobile when needed, such as during sitting or standing breaks, providing stability and preventing any accidental movement.
Gas Lift Piston for Bollards
Locking gas springs offer crucial functionality in bollards and road blocks, where controlled and secure movement is essential. These devices are commonly used for traffic control, security purposes, and access restriction. Gas struts provide the means to effortlessly raise and lower bollards or road blocks to allow or prevent vehicle passage. Once in position, the locking mechanism ensures the bollard or road block remains securely fixed, preventing unauthorized access or protecting pedestrians and property from potential threats.
Gas Spring for Smart Table
These cutting-edge tables are engineered to transform effortlessly between various configurations, such as adjusting the height for different tasks or converting from a coffee table to a dining table. The integration of locking gas springs ensures the smooth and secure transition between these modes, allowing users to position the table precisely at their desired height or angle with minimal effort. Once the ideal configuration is achieved, the locking mechanism firmly holds the table in place, providing stability and safety during use.
Gas Spring for Working Desk
Locking gas springs are integrated into height-adjustable desks, enabling seamless transitions between sitting and standing positions with just a simple push or pull. The smooth and controlled movement facilitated by locking gas springs allows users to customize the desk’s height to their preferred working level, promoting proper posture and reducing strain on the body during extended hours of work. Once the ideal height is reached, the locking mechanism ensures that the desk remains securely in place, providing a stable and steady surface for various tasks.
